Another option might be to cross-compile with crosstool ... er,
well, it would be if crosstool had any known good glibc-2.2 s390
combinations in its build matrix:

Anyway, if there's interest in better s390 support in crosstool,
this could be improved.  I'm adding a little fix for Andrew Morton,
so there is at least one s390 crosstool user :-)
